<abstract>In 2016, TriMet and the City of Portland Bureau of Transportation added sidewalk attributes ("tags") to almost all streets in the TriMet transit district in OpenStreetMap (OSM). Separate sidewalk geometries were not added to OSM; rather, a sidewalk tag with a value of left, right, both, or no was added to all street centerlines that were not yet tagged. Jurisdictional sidewalk shapefiles were used as a reference, as was Metro''''s 2014 and 2015 aerial imagery tile mapping service.It is important to note that this dataset is not based on the RLIS Street Centerline. As mentioned above, the source data is from OpenSteetMaps.</abstract>
<purpose>TriMet was motivated to invest in OpenStreetMap sidewalk tagging primarily to improve the pedestrian directions returned by its trip planner. The data set also represents the most current sidewalk layer with coverage of the entire Metro region and can be used by for pedestrian network analysis, sidewalk network density analysis, and sidewalk improvement prioritization.</purpose>
<supplinf>The data are maintained in OSM and exported to RLIS for the convenience of the RLIS users.</supplinf>
